Musical Improvisation at Land’s End / Coin-du-Banc en folie
August 5, 2017 @ 8:00 am - August 12, 2017 @ 5:00 pm
Presented by the IICSI, MILE Camp summer camp seeks to develop innovative strategies to put aspiring young musicians in direct and meaningful contact with professional improvisers. Musical Improvisation at Land’s End (MILE) is a unique summer camp that will engage young musicians and non-musicians alike in hands-on workshops led by world-class improvising artists.
The camp will run from August 5-12, 2017, in Coin-du-Banc, Québec. During that time we will have daily sessions dedicated to creating and rehearsing music. Curricular topics to be considered include the following: developing an extended musical vocabulary, riff-based ensemble improvisation, composition, collaboration, conducted improvisation, graphic scores, deep listening, assistive/adaptive use technologies, digital and computer-based improvisation, and free playing. After a final workshop/rehearsal, the camp will culminate in two public events: a performance by camp participants during the Festival Musique du Bout du Monde in Gaspé and a public concert featuring camp participants and camp faculty in a museum on the site of a recently deconsecrated historic church in Coin-du-Banc.
