Open Ears Festival of Music & Sound
May 26, 2016 @ 8:00 am - June 4, 2016 @ 5:00 pm
The Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound is happy to present its #OE16, which is themed #ReReRe – Rethink • Rewire • Renew. Referencing the three ‘R’s of environmental slogans and old timey schooling, we are highlighting:
● Re-examined and remixed conventional musical genres
● Recycled and hacked old and lo-fi tech and ideas
● Renewing and examining the intersections between what we perceive as the past, present, and future
#OE16 will take place in the Waterloo Region from May 26 – June 4. Open Ears has been presenting innovative sounds and creative music since 1998, and this is the second festival under the vision of artistic director and music maverick Gregory Oh .
Celebrating the Art of Listening, Open Ears aims to go beyond the fixed thinking of fixed seats and represent a diversity of sonic experiences.
On the 2016 Festival, artistic director Gregory Oh comments: “In the way that through the internet we can know everything, but come to know nothing, the relationship of art and technology is both simple and complex. From the first wire stretched to the first wire soldered, from the splicing of magnetic tape to 16-bit digital conversion to the stretching of an animal hide over a wooden frame, our place in time and technology provides not only the context of our commentary but also the tools with which to comment. What remains the same is a need to be creative, a perception that can
pierce convention and an imagination that can take everyday things, and adapt them into something that shows us something new, or tears away our blinders, or just alters, even slightly, the way we listen.”
Festival passes, flex passes, individual tickets and the festival lineup are available online at openears.ca.
