IICSI is pleased to present an afternoon with esteemed composer, trombonist, computer music pioneer, and scholar George E. Lewis. He is the Edwin H. Case Professor of American Music at Columbia University and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is also the author of A Power Stronger Than Itself: The AACM and American Experimental Music. Mr. Lewis will discuss the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), its cosmopolitan dimension, and his work as a composer with a focus on his chamber opera Afterword, An Opera.
