IICSI & Friends in Ottawa Concert

As part of the Canadian New Music Network’s 2016 Forum, Ottawa New Music Creators and Carleton University’s School for Studies in Art and Culture presented a unique improvisatory event at the First Baptist Church in Ottawa on January 16. The performers were Pauline Oliveros (accordion), Ione (vocals), Jesse Stewart (percussion), Gayle Young (amaranth), Craig Pedersen (trumpet), Raphael Weinroth-Browne (cello), Koen Kaptijn (trombone), Lan Tung (erhu), and Ellen Waterman (flutes). Alayne McGregor of Ottawa Jazz Scene called it “a constant process of swapping modes,” and likened the music to “a large lake, with ripples appearing and disappearing on the surface.”
