Jing Xia

Jing Xia is developing an improvisational practice as a guzheng player as part of her PhD dissertation work on Chinese instrumentalists in diaspora, and has performed many times in St. John’s. She worked closely with Mei Han and François Houle during their artist-in-residencies. In spring 2018, she has recorded a CD with postdoctoral fellow Teresa Connors and PhD student Jake Faraday. Jing gave a paper on intercultural improvisation’s role in her subject formation at the annual meeting of the Society for Ethnomusicology (Denver) in October 2017. She also presented at the IICSI-McGill annual colloquium: Pauline Oliveros, Still Listening, in Montreal in June 2017.
