Kristin Harris Walsh (PhD Folklore, Memorial; MA Dance, York) is an ethnochoreologist, folklorist and dancer whose research focuses on embodying culture through performance. Kristin has recently completed a SSHRC IDG, where she – along with ethnomusicology collaborators Sherry Johnson (York) and Heather Sparling (CBU) –explored antecedent and diasporic percussive dance forms in Canada through examining: changes in style, context and function; interrelationships between dance and music; and the challenges to conventional notions of tradition and heritage as they relate to cultural identity through dance. Kristin is currently Educational Specialist with the Centre for Collaborative Health Professional Education and holds an Adjunct Professor appointment with the School of Music, both at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She is Past President of DanceNL, Newfoundland and Labrador’s sectoral dance association, and Co-Convenor of the World Dance Alliance conference happening in St. John’s in 2017.
