now-orchestra New Orchestra Workshop Society 40th Anniversary

The NOW Society 40th Anniversary Celebration, November 15-18, 2017 at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Vancouver, will highlight the significance of one of Canada’s most important creative music collectives. The Society will celebrate with a four-day interactive archival installation, performances by the NOW Orchestra, the NOW Society Ensemble, new works by international composers Kris Davis and Lina Allemano, and a panel discussion, outlining the achievements of hundreds of artists and collaborators. Following the 40th Anniversary Celebration, the Society will oversee the digitization of NOW Archives, the finalization of an arrangement and description of NOW materials and the creation of an electronic finding aid, and will search for permanent, publicly accessible housing for the NOW Archives. The society is holding a fundraiser to fund the establishment of this permanent archive for its important legacy of ongoing work. From November 9-17, NOW also offers “Trading Places: Un Échange d’Improvisateurs” with Montreal artists Vicky Mettler (guitar) and Ellwood Epps (trumpet).

Visit their website for tickets to the Nov. 15-18th 40th anniversary and to learn more about their fundraising initiative.
