UBC IICSI Coll Wordle Agile Futures at Western Front

How can better, transformative and diverse futures be imagined from our immediate unruly present?

This year’s IICSI@UBC colloquium, Agile Futures: Approaching Improvisation, takes place June 22-23 during the opening weekend of the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival at the Western Front, one of Canada’s leading artist-run centres for contemporary art and new music.

The colloquium will feature keynote addresses and artist talks from several world-renowned improvisers who are also performing at the festival: Meredith Bates, Darius Jones, Mats Gustafsson, and Jing Xia. Filmmaker John B. Smith and musician Arish A. Kahn (of King Khan And The Shrines) will present a free public screening and discussion of The Invaders, a documentary that tells the story of a group of young black militants in late 1960’s Memphis, Tennessee.

Agile Futures is presented in collaboration with the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and the Coastal Jazz & Blues Society, and is free and open to the public.
