John Semple

John L Semple MD, MSc, FRCSC, FACS
Upon graduating from high school Dr Semple studied at the Ontario College of Art. He then completed a BSc in Medical Illustrating (Art as Applied to Medicine), in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Semple received his MD degree at McMaster University and his surgical training in Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto.
Dr Semple is currently a Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. He is also Chair in Surgical Research for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (Ontario Chapter). He is a Senior Scientist in the Women’s College Research Institute and a member of the Institute for Medical Science at the University of Toronto and has an Adjunct Faculty appointment at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in the Division of Wilderness Medicine. He is Past President of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Semple is Chair of the Board of Governors of OCAD University.
As well as his clinical interest in breast cancer and breast reconstruction Dr. Semple has a special interest in converging disciplines and their potential to act as a novel research platform. He is also a keyboard player in a blues band that plays in sleazy bars in Toronto. His research interest includes advancing ambulatory surgical innovation and new models of care using appropriate and affordable mobile technology.
