Maddy Morais

I am currently a student at the University of Guelph majoring in English and minoring in Art History. Entering my third year in Fall 2026, I am incredibly eager to see what the rest of my academic journey has in store. This summer, I will be working with IICSI as an archival assistant, cataloguing both digital and physical media, managing transcriptions, and assisting with various other archival projects.

 

My strong interest in the editing and publishing field is what drew me to IICSI, and I am confident that the experience I will gain by working in the archives will allow me to grow significantly as a writer. I thrive on challenging tasks and look forward to collaborating with the IICSI team to navigate and overcome any learning curves.

 

I believe that visual art, music, and writing are uniquely powerful, driving emotion while also encouraging focus. Combining these disciplines is crucial to create a society where art is not only accepted and studied, but acted upon. As a student, I believe it is my responsibility to engage with the arts critically, not just as a field of study, but as a way of life. I aim to explore the intersections between narrative and visual culture, while also bridging the gap between creative expression and archival preservation to ensure the documentation of artistically diverse voices. My passion to preserve the arts has been everlasting, and I am excited to delve deeper into the world of improvisational studies to broaden my understanding of art as a collective tool that connects us to one another.
