MusicWorks

This English-language magazine was founded 1978 in Toronto. At first a supplement to the Toronto literary periodical Only Paper Today, Musicworks became independent with its fifth issue and was published quarterly until 1987. It was published tri-annually 1987-2003 by the Music Gallery, and from 2003 by Musicworks Society of Ontario Inc. Beginning in 1983 each issue has been accompanied by a recording related to its subject matter. As “The Canadian Journal of Sound Exploration,” Musicworks has devoted each issue to a specific theme, focusing on the vision and activities of artists who move outside the musical mainstream. Score reprints or samples complement the texts and recordings, while imaginative photography, layout and illustrations give each issue its special colour.
