Summer Institute with a focus on Practice-Based Research
Held in conjunction with the Sound Symposium, and in partnership with Music, Media, and Place (MMaP), the 2014 Summer Institute on Improvisation and Practice Based Research attracted an international array of 14 participants who worked with Jesse Stewart (drummer, improviser/composer, educator and co-investigator) on both theoretical and experiential approaches to improvisation and practice based research. Stewart was hired by Memorial University, Newfoundland as a visiting professor to teach the course. Outcomes included a public performance at the Sound Symposium and a half-day public colloquium also offered as part of the Sound Symposium.
